PARK AND RIDE. You can get to us via the Cambridge park and ride system. You need to use the Babraham road or Cowley road site. You will need to get off the bus at the Centennial Hotel stop, which is at the end of Station Road. Our shop is a 3 minute walk from there.
We specialise in everything for the woodwind and brass player. We have a team of friendly staff who are experienced players and teachers of woodwind and brass instruments. They are knowledgeable about the wide range of instruments, music and accessories available.
We offer straightforward advice to help you choose, not only an instrument, but also mouthpieces, cases, reeds and other accessories to make you a happy player!
Our in-house team of repair specialists offer a comprehensive repair service for woodwind and brass instruments. This includes emergency repairs, annual service and instrument modifications and customisation.
Our philosophy is excellence. Value for money in all price ranges is also very important to us. We take great care to only select the highest quality instruments and accessories for our customers. We probably do more testing and evaluation on our stock than any other company in the country. We are even consulted by manufacturers worldwide to improve their designs and build quality. High quality does not always mean expensive.
Key Personnel
Daniel Bangham
At heart, Daniel is a craftsman. He made an international reputation as a "Classical Clarinet" maker during the '80s and '90s. Many of the finest recordings of Classic Clarinet music are made using instruments made by him (Recordings available). Now content running Wood Wind & Reed, he still has time for some repairs, restorations and making. Daniel also helped found a world leading image software company Fo2pix Ltd.
Brian Dent
Brian has worked at the highest level as a repairer for Wood Wind & Reed for over 14 years. As the longest serving member of staff, he has worked with Daniel in the cramped surroundings of the first workshop in Felton Street and through two successful moves as the business has grown.
Thomas Dryer Beers
Multi-instrumentalist, author, teacher, mouthpiece guru, tutor
and, not least Manager of the Instrument Department of Wood
Wind & Reed. He has taught extensively at all levels from
primary through to university both in the UK and the USA.
Thomas has contributed to a number of books and articles on
the saxophone including the "Cambridge Companion to the
Saxophone". He is a contributor to "The Clarinet
and Saxophone society" and other journals. Thomas first
came to the international stage 20 years ago on Clive James'
TV travel program about Dallas. Since then he has performed
in the US, Mainland Europe & Britain in various acclaimed
bands and quartets. He has extensive experience of the needs
of both students and professionals. He will be one of your
resources for choosing instruments and accessories.
Tim Taylor
Tim Joined the repair department in 2001 and like Daniel, Brian and Steve (below) he trained at Newark and Sherwood College of A & T. Tim is a fine repairer and manages the repair department. He is also a keen Flute player.

We also have pleasure in employing gap year and part-time staff, but we seem to lose them to Universities and Music Colleges up and down the country. We wish them good luck and always like seeing them back in the shop.
At various times staff members have also been active members of charities, music societies and associations. Currently we are supporting The Clarinet and Saxophone Society, The Cambridge Youth Wind Orchestra, The Cambridge and Peterborough Youth Orchestra and Mari Markus Gomori Children Concerts, Prime Brass among others. We also support the Flora and Fauna Preservation society and its work in planting more Blackwood trees to insure the future of good clarinets.
