BRASS REPAIRS

Most standard repairs and services are kept at the shop for 3 working days. Instruments requiring larger repairs such as a complete repad are usually kept for 3 - 5 working days.

Wood, Wind & Reed operate a bookings system so that you are without your instrument for as little time as possible. To avoid the need for unforeseen repairs we recommend that you have your instrument checked every 12 - 18 months and then book it in should work be required. You can make bookings up to a year in advance. School holidays fill up very fast so book well in advance to avoid disappointment.

Same day, or overnight repairs can be carried out by prior arrangement and depending upon the amount of work required. Please contact Tim to discuss your repair.

COMMON SMALL REPAIRS

Remove stuck mouthpiece

Remove stuck tuning slides
The tuning slides on any brass instrument can become stuck if they are not moved regularly. Stuck slides can be avoided if the slide is checked to see if it is moving every two weeks and grease applied if it feels stiff.

Replace Missing Pearl

Re-string valve

Solder one stay

Fit a ducks foot (French horns only)

A ducks foot is a form of adjustable hand rest that is soldered onto the french horn above the left hand. The paddle or foot of the rest sits on top of the left hand between the thumb and forefinger so putting the weight of the instrument onto the left hand rather than taking all the weight on the little finger.

SERVICES

A service on a brass instrument would involve stripping all slides and valves from the instrument, replacing valve felts, stops and strings where necessary, removal of easily accessible dents as discussed with the customer, thorough cleaning of the slides, valves and body of the instrument upon reassembly. We will be happy to give a quote for the removal of dents and straightening of slides upon inspection of the instrument.

Wood, Wind and Reed aim to make buying and owning an instrument easy and enjoyable. We choose the best products available to save you time and money. All instruments are tested and adjusted before sale and our reputation for pre and post sales service is the envy of our trade.

With such an extensive catalogue we do not promise to keep all goods in stock all the time. We do keep about 9000 titles of music in stock, hundreds of ligatures, double reeds, cleaners, cases and other accessories we can therefore get the majority of orders dispatched within 48 hours.

Our extensive selection of student and professional instruments will require final inspection, adjustment and testing so please allow around 5 working days for dispatch.
